Ecological Benefits

GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE

Both human and animal peoples benefit from a responsible ocean farm. Healthy kelp forests boost local fish stock which directly benefits their species and the species that eat those fish, including our local fishermen.

By cultivating kelp and shellfish, we contribute to local economies by creating jobs and supporting livelihoods. We collaborate with local fishermen, farmers, and businesses, promoting partnerships that benefit everyone involved.

GOOD FOR THE OCEAN

The ocean is our planet's lifeblood, and we are committed to its conservation. Our farming practices prioritize the health and preservation of marine ecosystems.

By cultivating kelp, we create and enhance habitats that provide shelter, food, and breeding grounds for various marine organisms. Shellfish, such as oysters and mussels, naturally filter water as they feed, improving its quality and clarity.

GOOD FOR THE LAND

Our ocean farming techniques are designed to have a positive impact on the environment. Kelp is an extraordinary plant that plays a crucial role in carbon sequestration. Our practices combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

But that's not all. The farm helps to stabilize coastal sediments, preventing erosion and protecting delicate ecosystems. And much more!

Grape St. Pier

Ola Farms is making its start at the Grape St. Pier location in San Diego Bay. Sound familiar? Sunken Seaweed started farming that space years ago. Standing on the shoulders of giants, we hope to continue their stewardship as we take our aim to restore San Diego's waterways using nature.
